Cork is actually the bark of an Oak tree commonly known as the Cork Oak. It is native to the mediterranean region in Portugal and Spain. The bark naturally sheds every 9-15 years and is harvested safely without harming the tree. The bark regrows and the cycle continues for years and years. The cork oak has been known to live for up to 500 years.
